Cheltenham And District Dog Training Club

Dates for your Diary: .

At the January meeting we had to accept Terry Merriman's resignation as secretary due to health issues. Vicky Norton has been coopted onto the committee  and has kindly stepped into the breach and will take over officially as secretary at the AGM.

I am now sorry to have to announce that Terry passed away on Saturday 20th February at home. We are exceptionally grateful to him for all that he did for us and the club - and his friends will miss him and remember him especially for his humour, his determination that things should be done correctly, his thorough and careful approach to all the jobs and duties he fulfilled for the club and latterly for the way in which he fought for every minute of enjoyment throughout his illness during the last two years.

Terry's funeral will be held at Cheltenham Crematorium at 2pm on Thursday 4th March.

His family wish that donations in his memory may be given at the service or sent to:-  B.Sweet and Sons, Funeral Directors, Oldborough House, Oldbury Road, Tewkesbury, GL20 5LZ. They will be sent to Dr.Profiri, Terry's doctor, who is doing research into renal cancer which is how his illness first manifested itself.

Anything New

2009 has been and gone. A busy year at club with the usual weekly meetings and classes.  It has been a fairly quiet year on the competitive front but there are exceptions. We still bring home a few rosettes each week.

One or two old favourite dogs have left us. And also two have been plagued with not the best of health. You must be sure that your dog is fit and well for this sport. It is not fair to put dogs in for competitive work if they have been unwell and therefore lacking training. I have been working Kite in just the one class, and hope that he will keep going at this level for another season. Several new puppies are on their way - exciting prospects.

The league matches are about to kick off - the first one is on 24th January - let's hope we do as well as we did last year.

Keep at it - It is so much fun finding out how a dog learns and how to get what you want from him. When the penny drops and you are both working on the same wave length it is a really good feeling.

The Christmas Dinner was organised for us by Melvin Bettridge at the House in the Tree. Twelve members were there to enjoy a good chat and a pre-Christmas Christmas Dinner - and a drink or two..

Unaccustomed as we are to being a bit smart!!!
