Cheltenham And District Dog Training Club

Competitive Obedience

Initially, our aim is to help owners to train their dogs to an acceptable pet standard, but there are always a few who wish to extend their skills. Our two flourishing Advanced Classes work towards this end and, at the same time, introduce the idea of "Competitive Obedience" as an absorbing and rewarding hobby.

To encourage these beginners we run courses instructed by top Obedience Handlers. Indeed, most of the club instructors take part in Open Obedience themselves. Our members work Classes ranging from Championship C to Pre-Beginners.

We hold an annual trophy test day for members to try out their handling skills and we encourage them to represent the Club is the South Western Obedience League, in which we have been successful every time out since we joined it in 2000. Many then test the water at Companion shows (once known as Exemption Shows) and go on to enter Open Shows where our team spirit in their support is much in evidence.

We have had members in the Inter-Regional Teams at Crufts many time since the inception of the competition.

Handler Training Courses

The usual one is a weekend course and this is for handlers working any level of obedience competition.

Contact:- Jan West - Telephone 01452 531481

The instructors chosen to put us through our paces on these courses are handlers and trainers who are very experienced and who are working dogs in the championship classes. We have a very good time and enjoy working our dogs and watching and listening to fresh ideas on how to get the best results from our dogs from an outsider.
